Defence Arrangements Made Between Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and the United Kingdom

Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom meet in Singapore to discuss Defence Arrangements. Historically in November 1971, a former Defence Arrangement created by Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom was known as ANZUK it was however disbanded as the UK ascended into the EEC.

ANZUK was a tripartite force formed by Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom to defend the Asian Pacific region after the United Kingdom withdrew forces from the east of Suez in the early 1970s. The ANZUK force was formed in Singapore on 1 November 1971 under Rear Admiral David Wells and disbanded in 1974.

This is the first step forward towards the renewal of the ANZUK Force and this alongside closer defence co-operation with Canada, in essence spells out CANZUK.

Recall that Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Canada as well as additional allies in the region such as South Korea and Japan have recently been added to the UK’s egates.

Moreover there is also a UK government brochure on the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP):
